Big News!

Monday, July 21st, 2008

On May 17, 2008 I married Arne Dankers, my boyfriend of 2 years. We’ve known each other since I moved to Calgary in 2000, but got to know each other better traveling as teammates on the world cup circuit since 2003. We started dating soon after we returned from the Olympics in 2006. It was an amazing experience to share with him and brought us really close. Before we knew it, we were engaged and planning our wedding! It took place in my home town of Melville, SK. It was a typical small town wedding with tons of guest and great Ukrainian food. Arne’s family is from the Netherlands, so some made the trip overseas and experienced the prairies for the first time. Unfortunately it was too early for the canola flowers, but we will be sending postcards and they will be able to better visualize it. We moved in together as soon as we got back to Calgary and have spent the summer enjoying our newlywed days mixed with our hard training. So, now I would officially like to share that I have taken Arne’s last name and will be Kerry Dankers from now on!

Training Update

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

This spring began with a different view than last year. This year I am healthy and prepared to dive right in. We started with the regular road cycling and got our aerobic systems ready for the hard summer training to come. Now that summer training is here, it is as hard as I remember. The only difference is that I am spending more time on the ice than any summer before. Because the Olympics are coming up in a year and a half I need to be totally prepared. For me, that means getting skating as soon as possible so that I am in skating shape for the beginning of the fall season. Being on the ice is getting me in shape this summer, as opposed to dryland training, because my knee prefers it. I have been working with my coach to find the best training for me and that is skating. I am really happy with that because that is what I love!
